Question Everything.
Question Everything.
Debate is a form of argumentation originally used to resolve quarrels. Sometime around 500 B.C., Socrates was known to use it, in his philosophy classes, to teach critical thinking. In some ways, we've spent the the last 2,500 years since removing productive debate from public discourse.
No single driving force is at play here, instead several factors create this outcome. Limited education budgets, leave educators with too many students as compared to their time and resources. College admissions focus on standardized knowledge retention. Human emotions create complexity in debate over core personal beliefs. These and more combine together to homogenize thought, and focus on memorization, or even indoctrination.
The first thing you should question, is everything you just read.
In this forum no topic is off-limits, but there are rules for engagement here. These will evolve over time, but will be founded on these core tenets:
1) Enter knowing you may be wrong.
2) Enter knowing we may be wrong.
3) Enter with an intent to learn.
4) Question everything.
